[edit] Overview

The CGW has a rich place in history connecting Chicago, Twin Cities, Kansas City and others through their hub in Oelwein Iowa.

Visit the Hub City Heritage Corporation Railroad Museum to see and experience the engines, cars and plenty of memorabilia about the CGW. http://www.cgwo.org/

[edit] Divisions

Eastern Division

Source: CGW Timetable Aug 12, 1962,[1] but prior years had different organization. For instance, a Consolidated Profile of the Eastern Division from 1927 lists only what is listed below as the Chicago District. In general, most people consider the Eastern Division to be the section from Chicago to Oelwein but that was only true in certain years.

Chicago District

  • Chicago to Oelwein - 245.8 Miles
  • DeKalb Branch - 6 Miles

For a mile-by-mile look at the Chicago district, go to the 1927 Eastern Division Condensed Profile still under construction

Des Moines District

  • Oelwein to Des Moines - 132.4 Miles
  • Cedar Falls Branch - 7.7 Miles

Kansas City District

  • Des Moines to Kansas City - 220.5 Miles

Total - 612.4 Miles

Minnesota Division[2]

St. Paul District

  • Minneapolis to Oelwein - 189.1 Miles
  • Tripoli Branch - 16.5 Miles

Mason City District

  • Hayfield to Clarion - 101.0 Miles

Mankato District

  • Mankato to Randolf - 67.4 Miles
